My wife always says: “Roughing
it is going 3 days without a TV, or phone.” Well for some
she might be right. But even those with such a limited view or experience
in camping can have a great time with out the feeling of just trying
to survive for a few days. Here are three things that are key to
having a great camping experience:
1. Be prepared
2. Be organized
3. Be prepared!!
Before you venture out into the great
outdoors, do some research on your camping surroundings and make
a checklist of all the gear that you want to take with you such
as food or any other supplies required for hiking trips, boating
adventures etc… We found that one of the best ways to be prepared
for your camping experience is to check out the Trailer
Life Directory. It is packed full of information that will make
your next camping trip most enjoyable. The trailer
life directory has detailed information on campgrounds in North
America so that you can go camping knowing what to expect. The directory
lists every campground in North America that offers a 10%
Good Sam club discount. You can even find out about local attractions
near the campground. CampMonkey.com highly recommends this great
camping resource. You can use the directory to book a campground
ahead of time. This will guarantee a spot for you if the campground
is busy, and it will save time during your registration process.
As I said before, above all be prepared.
But part of being prepared is being organized. Try to plan out your
meals for the time that you will be camping. We like to separate
out our food into pre-planned meals for each day. This may mean
mixing some ingredients before the trip. This allows for less work
while camping, and makes for quicker meals.
Another good idea that will help you
to be prepared, is to make a list off all the things you plan on
taking, tents, flashlights batteries etc. and make the list as detailed
as possible. Then before loading your vehicle, gather together everything
on your list and lay them out so you can see what you have. If the
list checks out with what you see – load up your vehicle.
Of course you can’t enjoy your
trip if you don’t make it there, so do a quick check on your
vehicle - checking all fluids, tire pressures (including your spare
tire) turn signals, lights, or anything else that may give you problems.
Make sure you are carrying your insurance cards, your registration
cards and any maps you may need in your travels.
Have a great time camping, you will
become closer to the people you are camping with, and the experience
will generate a lot of “remember when” type conversations.
